Offense Explodes in Men's Basketball Win
The offense exploded for 102 points in a 102-74 season-opening victory over Lake Forest College today. The Hornets shot a blistering 54 percent (38-71) from the field and 46 percent (12-26) from three-point range.
Junior B.J. Ford led all scorers with 20 points on seven of eight shooting with five three's, including one at the buzzer to put Kalamazoo over the 100-point mark. Senior center Adam Verseput poured in 17 points on five of six shooting while connecting on seven of eight free throw attempts. Steve Thwaites' 12 points and Dirk Rhinehart's 11 points rounded out the Hornets' top scorers. Brad Phillips added six assists with eight points and four rebounds.
The Hornets scored 38 points off 27 Lake Forest turnovers but were outrebounded 39-37. The Hornet bench contributed 54 points.
The last time Kalamazoo scored 100 points was in 1995 against Goshen College (Ind.).
Kalamazoo led 53-36 at halftime.
