KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team used
a solid second-half shooting effort to defeat Alma 73-66 on
Saturday. The win was the second-straight for Kalamazoo and
moves the Hornets into seventh-place in the MIAA.
Kalamazoo shot 34.5 percent and made 5-of-15 three-pointers
in the first half and trailed 32-30 at halftime. The Hornets
heated up in the second half, shooting 44 percent overall
while making 5-of-6 three-pointers. Kalamazoo also sank 16-of-20
free throws in the second half after netting 5-of-6 in the
first half.
Alma shot 44 percent from the field while making 11-of-19
three-pointers (57.9%) and 11-of-15 free throws.
Kalamazoo outrebounded Alma 38-29, including 14-8 on the
offensive end. The Hornets had just 12 turnovers to Alma's
15.
Pat Clancy led Kalamazoo with 18 points while draining three
three-pointers in the game's final 4:45, including one from
30-feet as the shot clock was ticking down in the final minute.
Clancy also had seven rebounds, four assists and five steals.
Mat Kellogg posted his second double-double of the season
with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kellogg was 8-of-10 at the
free throw line and finished the game with four blocks.
Tyler Worst was 6-for-6 at the free throw line and finished
with 12 points and four rebounds. Thomas Greer made 3-of-4
three-pointers and scored 11 points.
Alma's Isaac Smith scored over half of the Scots' points
with 34 on 11-of-16 shooting (5-7 3FG, 7-10 FT). He also led
the team with six rebounds and had three assists, three blocks
and three steals.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday at Tri-State. The
Hornets lost 69-68 to Tri-State at home in January.
