KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost
72-67 to Calvin at home on Senior Day.
Calvin got off to a quick start and led 5-0 after turnovers
on Kalamazoo's first two possessions. The Hornets settled
down, and despite not scoring until almost four minutes into
the game, went on a 15-0 run to take a 15-5 lead. Calvin fought
its way back and took a 24-22 lead with 4:49 left in the first
half. The game was tied 36-36 at halftime.
Kalamazoo scored the first six points of the second half
to take a 42-36 lead. Calvin kept it close and took its first
lead of the second half (52-52) with 10:24 left in the game.
The team's traded leads down the stretch until the game reached
its seventh tie (67-67) with 2:47 left to play. Calvin took
a 69-67 lead and the Hornets missed their final six shots
of the game while Calvin padded its lead with three free throws
leading to the 72-67 final.
Kalamazoo shot 38.3 percent from the field but made 42.9
percent (9-21) from behind the arc. Calvin shot just 35.9
percent overall and made 4-of-23 three-pointers (17.4%). Calvin
finished 22-of-29 at the free throw line while Kalamazoo made
12-of-14. The Hornets held a 45-37 advantage in rebounds,
but the Hornets committed 19 turnovers to Calvin's eight.
Pat Clancy led the Hornets with 21 points and five rebounds.
Tyler Worst scored 14 points with five rebounds and five assists.
Thomas Greer scored nine points off three three-pointers.
Mat Kellogg scored nine points with seven rebounds.
Derek Griffin and Josh Meckes each scored 18 points for the
Knights. Meckes had a team-high nine rebounds with five steals.
