KALAMAZOO - Four Kalamazoo College players scored in double
figures as the Hornets defeated Olivet 77-69 at home on Wednesday.
Kalamazoo led 38-29 at halftime and led by as many as 15
points (68-53) with 4:09 left in the game. Olivet cut the
lead to four points (73-69) with 27 seconds left, but Thomas
Greer and Roger Garfield each made two free throws on the
next two possessions to put the game away.
Kalamazoo shot 48.1 percent from the field, including 54.5
percent in the second half. Kalamazoo also mad 17-of-20 (85%)
at the free throw line. Olivet shot 43.9 percent and made
14-of-19 free throws. Olivet held a 36-31 rebounding advantage,
but turned the ball over 17 times to Kalamazoo's 14.
Mat Kellogg led the Hornets with 24 points on 9-of-9 shooting
and 6-of-7 free throws. Kellogg scored 14 points in the game's
first 15 1/2 minutes and finished the first half with 18 points
on 7-of-7 shooting (4-4 FT). The Hornets moved the ball outside
in the second half and made 5-of-10 three-pointers. Thomas
Greer finished with 15 points while sinking 3-of-6 three-pointers.
Tyler Worst scored 11 points with three assists and three
three-pointers. Pat Clancy scored 13 points with four rebounds
and five assists. Roger Garfield came in off the bench to
score seven points with eight rebounds and four assists.
Bryan Dutton and Jeff Cooper led Olivet with 14 points apiece.
Kalamazoo finishes up the regular season at home on Saturday
against Calvin at 3 p.m.
