KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won
its home opener 78-65 over Benedictine Univ. (Ill.) on Sunday.
Kalamazoo led 45-32 at halftime, and pulled out to a 52-32
lead early in the second half. Benedictine twice cut the Kalamazoo
lead to nine points, but the Hornets continued to respond
by maintaining the double-digit lead.
Kalamazoo shot 45.8 percent from the field while making 8-of-21
three-pointers. The Hornets sank 16-of-23 free throws. Benedictine
was held to 32.9 percent shooting while making just 6-of-26
three-pointers. The Eagles were 13-of-18 at the line.
Kalamazoo held a 45-41 rebounding edge while also blocking
five shots.
Pat Clancy led Kalamazoo with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting
with 4-of-6 three-pointers. Clancy also had five assists and
three steals. Henry McCain scored 13 points and had a dunk
in the early minutes of the game and an alley-oop near the
end of the game. McCain also had 12 rebounds, four assists
and two blocked shots. Damon Krohn scored eight points while
Mat Kellogg and Tyler Worst finished with seven points apiece.
Jared Bailey led Benedictine with 19 points and seven rebounds
on 7-of-20 shooting. Dan Klecan and Travis Wilson each scored
11 points.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at home against
Manchester College.
