KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team earned
a hard-fought victory, 80-67, over second-place Adrian College
on Wednesday.
Kalamazoo entered halftime with a 30-26 lead following a
first half that had six ties and 10 lead changes. Kalamazoo
led by four points on three occassions, while Adrian never
led by more than three.
Adrian started the second half on a 15-9 run to take a 41-39
lead with 14:45 left in the game. Kalamazoo regained the lead
(42-41) with 12:34 and led the rest of the game. The Hornets
led by as many with 14 (68-54) with 2:26 left in the game.
Kalamazoo shot 47.1 percent from the field and made 8-of-18
three-pointers (44.4%). Kalamazoo had its second-best free
throw shooting night of the season, converting on 88.9 percent
(24-27), while making 8-of-10 in the final minute.
Adrian shot 40.3 percent from the field and made 11-of-33
three-pointers (33.3%). Adrian was 2-of-3 at the free throw
line.
Kalamazoo held a 37-32 advantage in rebounds. The Hornets
matched their season-low with only 11 turnovers.
Mat Kellogg led Kalamazoo with 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting
while also making 6-of-7 free throws and blocking three shots.
Pat Clancy scored 15 points with eight rebounds and four assists.
Tyler Worst added 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Roger Garfield scored 11 points with four assists in 22 minutes
off the bench. Thomas Greer scored 10 points with five rebounds
in his first start of the season.
Andy Kubish and Lamar Cardenas each scored 14 points to lead
Adrian (7-11, 6-3 MIAA). Ryan Gallus added 10 points with
six rebounds and six assists.
Kalamazoo returns to action this Saturday at home against
Alma at 5 p.m.
