Kalamazoo College

LAS VEGAS - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won in dramatic fashion on Monday, 66-65 over SUNY-IT (State University of New York-Institute of Technology) in the consolation game of the adidas D-3 Desert Shootout.

Kalamazoo trailed 63-57 with under a minute left and no timeouts. Jevon Caldwell-Gross hit a three with 21.7 seconds left to bring the Hornets to within three (63-60). Kalamazoo quickly fouled to stop the clock and SUNY-IT missed its free throws. The Hornets pushed up court and Tim Herman's three-pointer tied the game at 63-63 with less than 10 seconds remaining. SUNY found an open player streaking down the floor and he scored on an uncontested layup with two seconds remaining leaving the Hornets down two (63-65). Kalamazoo inbounded the ball quickly to Caldwell-Gross who launched a three from half court and banked it in for the win (66-65) at the buzzer.

Caldwell-Gross finished with 19 points to lead Kalamazoo. Tony Wichmann scored 16 points and Tim Herman finished with 10.

Nick Grimmer led SUNY-IT with 24 points. Leonardo Leon scored 19 and Malcolm Stanton scored 11 points.

Kalamazoo shot 40 percent from the field while SUNY-IT shot 42.6 percent. Kalamazoo held a 41-34 rebounding edge. SUNY-IT struggled from three-point range (6-25) and at the free throw line (13-24). Kalamazoo was 6-of-15 from behind the arc and 12-of-14 at the line.
