
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost its home opener 60-58 to Marygrove College on Tuesday. Kalamazoo led 26-23 at halftime.
Kalamazoo shot 40 percent from the field while holding Marygrove to 35.2 percent. Each team made 16-of-20 free throws and six three-pointers. Kalamazoo held a 35-34 rebounding edge, but Marygrove had 11 offensive rebounds to Kalamazoo's six. The Hornets had four more turnovers than Marygrove, which, combined with the offensive rebound difference, resulted in nine extra shots for Marygrove.
Tony Wichmann led the Hornets with 19 points and five rebounds. Robert Boyle added 11 points off the bench.Chris Elliott had a team-high eight rebounds.
Dennis Foster led Marygrove with 16 points. Fernandez Bryant scored 12 points and DeAundray Armstrong had 11 rebounds.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Dec. 6 when the Hornets host Goshen College.
