Kalamazoo College

HOLLAND - The Hornets gave it a run Saturday night at the Civic Center, but in the end came up short in a 91-74 defeat to Hope College. Kalamazoo trailed 40-36 at halftime, and trailed by as few as six with about eight minutes to go, but the Hornets could not overcome Hope's hot second-half shooting (17-25, 68%).

Hope shot 62 percent for the game while Kalamazoo shot 45.9 percent. Each team shot 41 percent from three-point range. Hope held a 32-27 rebounding advantage. Hope had nine turnovers while Kalamazoo had only eight. Hope also converted on 24-of-27 free throw attempts. Kalamazoo was 11-of-15 at the line.

Tony Wichmann led the Hornets with 19 points and nine rebounds. Jevon Caldwell-Gross added 15 points. Tim Herman and Chris Elliott each scored 11 points for the Hornets (5-10, 1-3 MIAA).

Andy Phillips led Hope with 26 points and seven rebounds on 11-of-14 shooting. Stephen Cramer scored 16 points off the bench. Kyle Kleersnyder added 14 points and Daane Griffeth finished with 10 points (12-3, 2-1 MIAA).
