KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team suffered a 52-50 loss to Olivet at home on Saturday. Kalamazoo led 26-24 at halftime. The Hornets had a chance to tie the score with a layup with about five seconds left but it bounced off the back of the rim. Jeff Oney then hit a potential game-winning three-pointer, but it came just after the buzzer.

The Hornets shot a dismal 29.1 percent from the field, including just 2-of-13 from three-point range (11.8%). Olivet shot just 37 percent, but allowed the Hornets to stay close by making just 9-of-21 free throws (42.9%). Kalamazoo held a 45-41 rebounding edge over the Comets (8-5, 2-0 MIAA).

Chris Elliott led the Hornets with 13 points and six rebounds. Tony Wichmann scored nine points with eight rebounds.

Derek Cox led Olivet with 14 points and five rebounds. The Comets season-leading scorer De'Andre Pruitt (14.5 ppg) was held to four points and eight rebounds.

Kalamazoo (5-8, 1-1 MIAA) returns to action this Wednesday when the Hornets host Calvin College at 7:30 p.m.
