KALAMAZOO - The men's basketball team fell 78-70 to Adrian in the first round of the MIAA Tournament here on Wednesday. Kalamazoo trailed 32-23 at halftime.
Adrian shot 42.4 percent from the field while Kalamazoo shot 41.7 percent. Adrian held a 35-30 rebounding advantage. Kalamazoo turned the ball over 20 times while Adrian had just 12 turnovers.
Scott Montmorency led the Hornets with 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 6-of-7 from behind the arc. Dirk Rhinehart added 13 points and Nathan Burns finished with 10 points. Rhinehart moved into fifth place on the Hornets' career scoring list with 1,396 career points.
Steve Brooks led Adrian with 26 points. Dan Walter added 21 points and Adam Novak finished with 10 points for the Bulldogs (13-13). Adrian advances to Friday's semi-final where they will play Albion.
Kalamazoo finishes its season with a record of 18-7, the team's best record since 1993-94 (20-7).
