
ALBION - Kalamazoo's bid for an MIAA championship ended in Albion tonight with a 72-64 defeat. Kalamazoo fell to 7-4 in the MIAA while Albion and Hope each improved to 9-2. Kalamazoo trailed 37-32 at halftime.
Albion shot 56.5 percent from the field including a blistering 68.4 percent in the second half. The Britons also shot 42.1 percent (8-19) from behind the arc. Kalamazoo was held to just 35.8 percent shooting while sinking 6-of-17 three pointers (35.3%). Albion held a 30-29 rebounding edge.
Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with 18 points. Kevin Baird added 10 points. Mike King had a team-high seven rebounds.
Brett Quayle led Albion (20-4 / 9-2 MIAA) with 20 points. Travis DePree added 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Michael Thomas finished with 12 points and four assists.
Kalamazoo (18-5 / 7-4 MIAA) will close out the regular season with Hope College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
