
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 73-59 win over the University of Chicago. Kalamazoo trailed 32-30 at halftime, but outscored Chicago 43-27 in the second half.
Kalamazoo shot just 36.7 percent in the first half, but shot 50.0 percent in the second half to finish at 43.3 percent. Chicago shot 48 percent in the first half, but only 33.3 percent in the second half to finish at 40.4 percent. Rebounding was even at 36 for both teams. Chicago committed 20 turnovers resulting in 22 Kalamazoo points, while Kalamazoo had just 12 turnovers resulting in six points.
Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with 23 points and eight rebounds. Nathan Burns added 16 points and five rebounds and Erik Rhinehart finished with 13 points.
Derek Reich scored 21 points with seven rebounds to lead Chicago. Reich had two points and zero rebounds after playing under three minutes in the first half after picking up a pair of fouls. Justin Waldie added 13 points for the Maroons (3-6).
Kalamazoo (6-1) is off until Dec. 28 when the Hornets travel to the College of Wooster to face Illinois College.
