
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won its season opener 91-88 in overtime at Lake Forest College this evening. Lake Forest led 42-38 at halftime. Kalamazoo outscored Lake Forest 9-6 in overtime.
Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with 22 points. Scott Montmorency scored 18 points with seven rebounds. Erik Rhinehart scored 11 points with nine rebounds. Jevon Caldwell-Gross added 12 points.
Kalamazoo held a 42-38 rebounding advantage. The Hornets shot 41.8 percent while Lake Forest connected on 42.4 percent. The Hornets shot 87.5 percent (28-32) at the free throw line while Lake Forest made 70.5 percent (31-44) at the line.
Rob Passage made his head coaching debut tonight and begins his career with a 1-0 record. Passage, the 12th men's basketball head coach in Kalamazoo College history, is the ninth to win his Kalamazoo College coaching debut. The Hornets' 91 points is the most points ever scored in a coach's first game.
Kalamazoo plays its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. against Madonna University.
