KALAMAZOO - Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with a 24-point effort as the Hornets defeated Olivet 72-65 in Anderson Athletice Center on Wednesday. Kalamazoo led 35-31 at halftime.
Dirk Rhinehart was 8-of-14 shooting and 4-for-4 at the line to lead all scorers with 24 points. Erik Rhinehart added 13 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting and 4-for-4 at the line. Nathan Burns added 12 points and five rebounds. Kevin Baird had a team-high eight rebounds.
Michael Dyson led Olivet with 13 points. Matt Brawley added 12 points. Travis Schellhammer finished with 11, and Will Lee scored 10 points with four rebounds for the Comets (10-7 / 2-2 MIAA).
Kalamazoo shot 43.9 percent from the field while holding Olivet to 38.5 percent shooting. Olivet sank 18-of-23 free throws (78.3%) while Kalamazoo hit 16-of-19 (84.2%) at the line. Kalamazoo held a 36-33 rebounding advantage.
Kalamazoo (12-3 / 2-2 MIAA) hosts Albion College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
