
KALAMAZOO - Kalamazoo improved to 1-1 in the MIAA with an 89-66 win over Alma College on Saturday. Alma jumped out to a quick start hitting seven of its first nine three-point shots, but Kalamazoo stayed close, eventually pulling away to a 45-34 halftime lead.
Kalamazoo shot 55.2 percent from the field and 43.8 percent (7-16) from behind the arc. Alma was held to 39.3 percent shooting and finished the game 9-of-25 from three-point range (36 percent). Kalamazoo held a 35-33 rebounding edge.
Scott Montmorency led five Hornets in double figures with 14 points. Mike King scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting with three assists. Chris Elliott scored 12 points, Erik Rhinehart added 11 points, and Dirk Rhinehart finished with 10 points. Jevon Caldwell-Gross had a team-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Nathan Burns had six assists.
Rob Taylor led Alma with 19 points and six rebounds. Charlie Gross added 16 points and five assists for the Scots (1-13, 0-2 MIAA).
Kalamazoo (10-2, 1-1 MIAA) travels to U of M-Dearborn on Wednesday for a non-conference game.
