Kalamazoo College

GRAND RAPIDS - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team led Hope for 39 minutes, but in the end it was the Flying Dutchmen on top 68-67 in the Semi-Finals of the MIAA Tournament at Calvin College.

Kalamazoo led 67-66 when Hope's Greg Immink was fouled with 1.5 seconds left on the clock. Following a Kalamazoo timeout, Immink proceeded to sink both free throws to take the 68-67 lead. Kalamazoo turned the ball over on the inbounds pass and the game was over.

Kalamazoo took a 37-26 lead into halftime after shooting 46.7 percent including 7-of-11 from behind the arc. Hope clawed their way back into the game early in the second half and took advantage of free throw opportunities, meshing 23-of-26 in the second half after shooting only one free throw in the first half. Kalamazoo was 10-of-11 at the line for the game.

Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with 18 points. Nathan Burns added 10 points and four rebounds. Erik Rhinehart scored nine points on three triples. Scott Montmorency and Jevon Caldwell-Gross each finished with seven points. Kevin Baird had a team-high seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

Don Overbeek led five Hope players in double figures with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He was 10-of-12 at the free throw line. Greg Immink finished with 13 points. Mike VanHekken, Travis Spaman, and Chad Carlson each scored 11 points.

Kalamazoo finishes the season with a record of 17-10.
