
MARIETTA, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost to
Marietta College 61-60 on Saturday. The Hornets trailed 31-23 at halftime
before battling back to hold a two-point lead with four seconds left in
the game. Marietta's Adam Means was fouled on a three-point shot with four
seconds left and hit all three free throws to take the 61-60 lead. Kalamazoo
had a half-court shot attempt fall short as time expired.
Kalamazoo shot 40.4 percent from the field while holding Marietta to 35.8
percent. The Hornets struggled at the free throw line, hitting 17-of-26
for 65.4 percent while Marietta made 19-of-23 free throw attempts (82.6%).
Kalamazoo had 17 turnovers to Marietta's 19, but Marietta held a 35-33
rebounding edge.
Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with 12 points. Nathan Burns had 10 points,
four rebounds, and six assists. Scott Montmorency fouled out with nine
points. Mike King had a team-high six rebounds.
Marietta (8-3) was led by Jesse DuPerow with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Kalamazoo (7-5) will play Kenyon College on Sunday at 2 p.m. Buffalo State
was unable to make the trip due to the weather, thus the change in schedule.
Kenyon will play Marietta on Monday.
