
KALAMAZOO - After a slow start to the game the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team turned things around and defeated Lake Forest College 68-49 in the season opener at Anderson Athletic Center tonight.
Kalamazoo trailed early but battled back to trail by only one point (28-27) at halftime. Kalamazoo took control in the second half, holding Lake Forest without a field goal for the final 11 minutes of the game. The Hornets outscored Lake Forest 41-21 in the second half.
Dirk Rhinehart led all scorers with 19 points. All were scored in the second half. Scott Montmorency had 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. Nathan Burns and Jevon Caldwell-Gross chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Bryan Bertola led Lake Forest with 10 points. Brian Bruha had a team-high five rebounds.
Kalamazoo shot 44.9 percent from the field and 80 percent (16-20) at the free throw line. Lake Forest shot 31.3 percent from the field and 73.7 percent (14-19) at the line. Kalamazoo held a 37-29 rebounding advantage.
