Kalamazoo College

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team knocked off the defending MIAA champion Calvin College 65-42 at Anderson Athletic Center on Saturday. Kalamazoo jumped out to an early lead and entered halftime leading 28-22.

Kalamazoo shot 52.1 percent from the field including 6-of-16 three pointers. Calvin shot only 28.6 percent and was 4-of-20 from behind the arch. Kalamazoo won the rebounding battle 39-27.

The Hornets had a balanced scoring attack led by Nathan Burns' 11 points. Kevin Baird added 10 points while Dirk Rhinehart and Erik Rhinehart each finished with eight points.

Rob Dykstra led Calvin with 12 points. Jeremy Veenstra was held to 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting.

Kalamazoo (9-6/1-1) hosts Alma College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Calvin (10-4/1-1) is off until next Saturday.
