
GRAND RAPIDS - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 71-65
at Calvin on Wednesday. Calvin led 34-28 at halftime. Kalamazoo came within
two points (64-62) with 1:35 left in the game, but the Hornets could not
get any closer as Calvin made a basket and five-of-six free throws in the
final minute while Kalamazoo went one-for-five from the field in the final
minute.
Kalamazoo shot 41.1 percent from the field while Calvin shot 39.6 percent.
Calvin held a slight rebounding edge, 33-31. Kalamazoo was 10-for-10 at
the free throw line, however the Knights went to the line 19 more times
and finished 22-for-29. Kalamazoo committed 18 turnovers while Calvin had
14.
Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with 13 points and five rebounds and five
assists. Nate Troyer scored 10 points with three assists. Erik Rhinehart
scored nine points. Tony Wichmann added eight points and four rebounds.
Nathan Burns finished with seven points.
Jeremy Veenstra led Calvin with 21 points and seven rebounds. Chris Prins
added 15 points and Rob Dykstra finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Kalamazoo (13-8/5-3 MIAA) travels to Alma College on Saturday.
