Kalamazoo College

OLIVET - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team maintained its hold on first place in the MIAA with a 70-66 win at Olivet on Saturday. Kalamazoo led by 18 at halftime (44-26) and withstood a late second half rally by Olivet to emerge with the victory.

Erik Rhinehart came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points for the Hornets. He was 5-of-5 from three-point range and 6-of-7 overall with two free throws and five rebounds. Kalamazoo got eight points apiece from Scott Montmorency, Nate Troyer, and Dirk Rhinehart.

Michael Dyson led Olivet with 25 points and five rebounds.

Kalamazoo shot 38.9 percent from the field while Olivet shot 37.0 percent. The Hornets were 15-of-35 from three-point range (42.9%) while Olivet made 6-of-15 from behind the arch. Kalamazoo held a 44-30 rebounding advantage.

Kalamazoo (13-6 / 5-1 MIAA) is off on Wednesday. The Hornets begin round two of the MIAA campaign by hosting Hope College next Saturday at 3 p.m.
