Men's Basketball Falls at Olivet

OLIVET - With both teams battling for the right to host a first-round MIAA Tournament game, the Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Kalamazoo College, 82-73. Olivet led 33-31 at halftime.

Brian Johnson led Olivet with 20 points and five rebounds. Ajamian Gardner added 15 points. Bruce Lawrence was held to eight points and seven rebounds.

Dirk Rhinehart led five Kalamazoo players in double figures with 12 points and seven rebounds. Doug Lepisto and Scott Montmornecy each had 11 points. Chris Elliott scored 10 points with nine rebounds. Mike King scored a career-high 10 points.

Kalamazoo shot 39.1 percent from the field. Olivet shot 39.0 percent. Kalamazoo held a 45-38 rebounding advantage. Kalamazoo committed 23 turnovers while Olivet turned the ball over just 14 times. Kalamazoo was 20-of-24 at the free throw line. Olivet hit 30-of-41 at the line.

Kalamazoo finishes the regular season at 9-15 overall and 4-8 in the MIAA. Olivet improves to 10-11 overall and 5-6 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo was 0-6 on the road in MIAA play this season.

The Hornets do not play on Saturday. Their next game will be on the road in the first round of the MIAA Tournament next Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
