Men's Basketball Falls to Chicago

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team had upset on their minds as they entered the locker room at halftime with a 30-26 lead over the University of Chicago, one of the top-ranked teams in NCAA III. The visiting Maroons regrouped at the break and came out in complete control in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 50-23 on their way to a 76-53 win.

The Hornets shot just 28.8 percent for the game. They made just five field goals in the second half (5-27) for 18.5 percent shooting, and hit just 2-of-17 from behind the arc. Chicago's second-half shooting performance jolted their overall shooting percentage to 47.2. The Maroons also held a 44-33 rebounding advantage.

Dirk Rhinehart led Kalamazoo with nine points. Jevon Caldwell-Gross scored eight and Nate Troyer added seven. Scott Montmorency grabbed eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

Chicago's Derek Reich had a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jim Waichulis added 12 points and Matt Bochenek had 10.

Kalamazoo falls to 3-3 with the loss while Chicago improves to 7-1. The Hornets travel to Winona Lake, Ind. for a tournament at Grace College this weekend. They open up on Friday at 6 p.m. against Cornerstone University.
