
Men's Basketball Upsets CalvinKalamazoo held a 42-27 halftime lead after shooting 50.0 percent from the field, including 6-of-13 on three-pointers (46.2%). Calvin shot just 30.8 percent and was 0-of-8 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes. Calvin actually led 5-0 to open the game, but Kalamazoo took a 10-9 lead with 13:48 left in the first half and never let go of the lead. Calvin cut the deficit to three (48-45) midway through the second half and came within four points on three different occasions in the final four minutes, but could not get any closer as Kalamazoo converted on 11-of-12 free throws in the final minute and a half. Dirk Rhinehart sparked the Hornets with 19 points. Scott Montmorency added 13 points and a team-best six rebounds. Nate Troyer finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Calvin's Josh Tubergen led all scorers with 22 points and nine rebounds. Jeremy Veenstra finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Rob Holleman added nine points and Bryan Foltice scored eight points. Kalamazoo shot 45.6 percent from the field and 44.4 percent (8-18) from behind the arch. The Hornets were 19-of-21 at the free throw line. Calvin shot 35.7 percent for the game and just 12.5 percent (2-16) from three-point range. Calvin was 23-of-31 (74.2%) at the line. Calvin outrebounded Kalamazoo 36-35. Kalamazoo improves to 6-14 (1-7 MIAA) with the win. Calvin suffered just its fouth loss of the season and falls to 15-4 (6-2 MIAA). |
