Men's Basketball falls at Hope

HOLLAND - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team held a 30-29 lead at halftime at the Holland Civic Center, but was unable to hold on for the win as Hope prevailed, 76-61.

Hope shot 42.6 percent for the game while holding Kalamazoo to just 37.1 percent. Hope connected on 9-of-22 three-point attempts. Kalamazoo hit 6-of-22. The Hornets won the rebounding battle 41-39, but commmited four more turnovers (18-14) than the Flying Dutchmen.

Doug Lepisto led Kalamazoo with 11 points. Dirk Rhinehart and Nathan Burns each finished with eight points. Chris Elliot scored seven points with six rebounds. Nate Troyer and Kevin Barid led the team with seven rebounds each.

Don Overbeek led Hope with 16 points and nine rebounds. Kyle VanderWall added 12 points. Ryan Klingler had 10 points and six rebounds. Matt Taylor had 10 points and four assists.

Kalamazoo falls to 5-14 overall, 0-7 in the MIAA. Hope improves to 12-7 overall, 5-2 in the MIAA. The Hornets return to action on Wednesday when they host Calvin College at 7:30 p.m.
