Rhinehart Scores 31 in Loss to Albion

KALAMAZOO - Dirk Rhinehart scored a career-high 31 points as Kalamazoo fell to Albion College 85-78 in Anderson Athletic Center today.

Rhinehart, a sophomore guard/forward from Westville, Ind. (Valparaiso HS), was 8-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three point range. He was 10-for-10 at the free throw line. He also had three assists and one rebound.

Nathan Burns added nine points and two steals. Nate Troyer had eight points and a team-high six rebounds. Doug Lepisto had a team-best six assists. Shawn Kidd had a career-high seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Mike Knight paced the Britons with 21 points and four assists. Andrew Neidlinger had 14 points and eight rebounds. Brett Quayle had 13 points, Steve Champine had 11, and Jon VanderWal had 10.

Both teams shot exceptionally well, however Albion held a slight edge (57.9%) over Kalamazoo (53.2%). The Britons were 12-of-18 from three-point range (66.7%) while the Hornets were 12-of-27 (44.4%). Albion went to the line 41 times (29-41) compared to Kalamazoo's 20 attempts (16-20). Albion held a 27-19 rebounding advantage.

Kalamazoo falls to 5-11 (0-4 MIAA) with the loss. Albion improves to 11-4 (2-1 MIAA). Kalamazoo travels to Adrian College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
