Men's Basketball announces season awards
Three awards – Most Improved Player, Most Outstanding Teammate, and Most Valuable Player – were handed out at the annual Men’s Basketball Banquet on Sunday, February 27th. The recipients of this year’s awards were:
Most Improved Player – Tyler Stewart, Senior, Okemos.  A three-year starter and two-year team captain, Tyler raised his level of play on both ends of the court in 2010-11.  On offense he improved his shooting percentage over ten percent to 48%.  He was also second on the team in assists with 73.  Defensively he gave the team a big lift on the boards, improving by over a rebound a game from last season and finishing third on the team with 4.5 rebounds per game.
Most Outstanding Teammate – Josh Haney, Sophomore, Middleville.  Josh wins this award without playing a single minute in a varsity contest this season.  Coming over from the football team, he practiced three weeks with the team before his season came to an end from a dislocated kneecap in early December.  Though not able to play, Josh still attended practices and games, giving constant support to the coaching staff and his teammates.  His commitment and team first attitude were inspiring to everyone throughout the program.
Most Valuable Player – Joe Prepolec, Junior, Bloomfield Hills.  Joe followed up a solid sophomore season with an even better junior year.  The team leader in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, field goal percentage, and free throws made, Joe was a force on both ends of the floor for the Hornets in 2010-11.  An All-MIAA First Team selection for the second year in a row, Joe was third in the league in scoring, including posting a career-high 40 points at Hope College.
