falls to Defiance in season opener The men's basketball team lost 79-62
to Defiance College in the season opener on Sunday,
Nov. 15. The Hornets led by six (22-16) midway through
the first half, but Defiance used a 10-4 run to pull
ahead 26-25 with 7:50 left in the first half. The Yellow
Jackets led the rest of the game, including 41-35 at
halftime. Defiance shot 42.6 percent overall and made
11-of-28 three-pointers. Kalamazoo shot 34.7 percent
overall and made just 5-of-23 three-pointers. Defiance
held a 45-40 advantage in rebounds. Ryan Clark led four
Hornets in double figures with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Tyler Stewart scored 14 points with four rebounds and
six assists. A.J. Williams scored 11 points with six
rebounds and four assists. Joe Prepolec scored 10 points
with seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Drew Mitchell
added eight points with four blocked shots. Kalamazoo
returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Anderson (Ind.)

battles Western Michigan University in preseason exhibition
game The men’s basketball team battled
NCAA Division I neighbor Western Michigan on Saturday,
Nov. 7, stumbling late and losing 78-52. The Hornets
scored the first basket of the game on a jumper by sophomore
Joe Prepolec, and found themselves trailing at halftime
by only eight points. The second half went back-and-forth
as the Hornets cut the lead to five points on a couple
of occasions. Kalamazoo trailed by ten, 61-51, with
just over six minutes to play before WMU pulled away
for the 26-point victory. Ryan Clark led the Hornets
with 19 points and seven rebounds. Prepolec was the
only other Hornet in double-figures with ten, while
AJ Williams and Tyler Stewart chipped in with seven
points each. The Hornets return to action this Sunday
with their home opener against Defiance College at 3

Cooper and McCain earn All-MIAA Basketball honors Nyemade Cooper and Henry McCain were selected to their respective All-MIAA Basketball Second Team's on Monday, March 2. Cooper, a junior from Ypsilanti (Gabriel Richard HS), led the MIAA in scoring (15.4 ppg) and blocked shots (2.1 avg). She is Kalamazoo's first league scoring champion since 1987-88. Cooper finished second in the league in rebounding (8.4 rpg) and fourth in shooting percentage (.486). For the season, Cooper finished her junior season with 352 points and now has a career total of 873, ranking 13th among Kalamazoo College career leaders. Cooper pulled down 209 rebounds this season and became just the sixth player in school history to reach 500 career rebounds. McCain, a senior from Harper Woods (Grosse Pointe North HS), ranked sixth in league contests in rebounding (6.8 avg) and 11th in scoring (12.0 ppg). He was the only Hornets' player to average in double figures, and was named MIAA Player of the Week for Week Five after scoring a career-high 27 points against Oberlin.
