Lachapelle Selected to Play in Aztec Bowl

Kalamazoo College defensive lineman Nick Lachapelle (Dearborn, Mich./Redford Catholic Central) has been selected to play for the American Football Coaches Association’s Division III all-star team that will represent the United States against the Mexican National Team in the 1999 Aztec Bowl on December 18 in Mexico City.

Lacahapelle, a senior from Dearborn, Michigan, earned first team All-MIAA honors for the Hornets this season as he keyed a defense that set a school record for fewest rushing yards allowed in a season.

Lachapelle is one of 40 NCAA Division III seniors from around the country who will make up this year’s team. Former Central (Iowa) College Head Coach Ron Schipper will coach the team for the third consecutive year.

This year’s game will kick off at 1:00 EST on December 18 and will be played at Wilfrido Massieu Stadium on the campus of Polytechnic University in Mexico City.

The Aztec Bowl is the traditional season-ending game for Mexico’s college football season. The game has been played 28 times since 1947 with the last two contests in 1997 and 1998 featuring the United States-Mexico match-up.
