ALBION, Mich. - The football team opened the MIAA season
with a 30-27 win at Albion on Saturday, Oct. 2. Kalamazoo
led 6-3 after the first quarter and 16-13 at halftime. After
a scoreless third quarter, Kalamazoo went up 23-13 early in
the fourth quarter. Albion returned the kick 79 yards, however,
to cut the lead back to three (23-20). Kalamazoo went up 30-20
with 6:22 left to play. The Britons scored with 1:20 left
to make it 30-27. Kalamazoo recovered the onside kick and
was able to run out the clock for the win.
Sam Landry was 25-of-44 passing for 310 yards with two touchdowns
and an interception. He also rushed for 50 yards and a score.
Dimeko Price rushed for 91 yards on 20 carries. He also had
six catches for 55 yards and a score.
Cory McCain had three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Jimmy Frye had a team-high 113 yards on six catches.
Travis Braun made three field goals for Kalamazoo (32, 39,
30 yards).
Mike Page led the defense with 10 tackles, including two
for lost yardage. Jake Schell had six tackles.
Kalamazoo had 461 yards of total offense (156 rush, 305 pass).
Albion had 404 total yards (171 rush, 233 pass). The Hornets
turned the ball over once with an interception, but took advantage
of three fumbles by Albion.
After three weeks on the road, Kalamazoo returns home to
face Hope next Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
