vs. Rockford College (Ill.)
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team took advantage
of a huge second quarter on the way to a 44-9 win over visiting
Rockford College on Saturday.
The Hornet defense held Rockford to a three-and-out on the
game's opening possession. Kalamazoo then took advantage of
a Rockford penalty on fourth down and scored two plays later.
Kalamazoo took a 10-0 lead after a Travis Braun field goal,
but Rockford came right back and scored a touchdown to cut
the score to 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged to Kalamazoo, however, as the
Hornets put up four touchdowns while holding Rockford scoreless.
Brandon Luczak threw four touchdown passes in the half - two
each to Jimmy Semelsberger and Cory McCain - to take a 37-7
lead into halftime.
Kalamazoo scored again midway through the third quarter to
go up 44-7. Rockford scored on a safety with 4:20 left in
the game to make it 44-9.
Kalamazoo put up 548 yards of total offense while holding
Rockford to 266 yards.
Brandon Luczak was 27-of-45 passing for 417 yards with a
school-record six touchdowns along with two interceptions.
Jimmy Semelsberger had eight catches for 125 yards with three
touchdowns. The senior now has 2,145 total receiving yards
for his career, just 38 yards behind Andy Graham who is third
all-time in Kalamazoo history.
Cory McCain had seven catches for 161 yards with three touchdowns.
Ryan Bizzis had six catches for 47 yards. Aaron Rice had three
catches for 63 yards.
Kalamazoo had 131 yards rushing, led by Stephen Johnston's
79 yards on 17 carries.
Adam Manix and Brandon Foutz each had eight tackles to lead
the Hornets. Ted Bealin had seven tackles.
Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday with a trip to
Manchester (Ind.) College.
