vs. Albion College
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 34-14
to Albion College on Saturday.
Albion took a 7-0 lead on a 43-yard touchdown run on the
second play from scrimmage. The Britons made it 10-0 with
a 72-yard touchdown run on their fifth play.
After trailing 24-0 at halftime, Kalamazoo scored on its
first possession of the second half with a 27-yard touchdown
pass from Brandon Luczak to Cory McCain. The Britons went
up 27-7 with a field goal, and the Hornets made it 27-14 when
Luczak found Jimmy Semelsberger on a three-yard touchdown
pass just before the end of the third quarter. Albion capped
off the scoring with a touchdown run midway through the fourth
quarter to make it 34-14.
Albion put up 485 yards of total offense while limiting Kalamazoo
to just 297 yards. The Britons held the ball for nearly 40
minutes while limiting Kalamazoo to just over 20 minutes.
The Hornets also turned the ball over five times and took
just one from Albion.
Brandon Luczak was 23-of-49 passing for 229 yards with two
touchdowns and four interceptions. He also led the team with
35 rushing yards. Luczak set new single-season records for
completions (266) and passing yards (3,156).
Jimmy Semelsberger had eight catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Stephen Johnston had five catches for 33 yards. Ryan Bizzis
had four catches for 53 yards.
Cory McCain left the game with an injury after his touchdown
reception early in the third quarter. It was his 24th career
touchdown reception, breaking the school record for career
touchdown receptions.
Jake Schell led the defense with 11 total tackles. Brian
Flahie and Nate Kopydlowski each had nine tackles. Andy Herman
had a 44-yard interception return.
Kalamazoo wraps up the 2009 season at Hope next Saturday,
Nov. 14.
