HOLLAND - The Kalamazoo College football team suffered a
45-33 loss at Hope on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The Flying Dutchmen jumped out to a 31-0 lead and led 31-7
at halftime. Hope led 45-14 early in the fourth quarter, but
the Hornets fought back and scored three touchdowns before
time expired resulting in the 45-33 defeat.
Hope scored on five of its first seven possessions in the
first half. Kalamazoo had turnovers on three of its first
six possessions.
Kalamazoo had 544 yards of total offense to Hope's 468 yards.
Kalamazoo also had the ball 33:40 to Hope's 26:20, but the
Flying Dutchmen scored points on seven of its 11 possessions
while Kalamazoo scored points on just five of 12 possessions.
Brandon Luczak was 56-of-79 passing for 507 yards with five
touchdowns and an interception. Luczak set school single-game
records with 507 passing yards, 498 yards of total offense,
56 completions and 79 pass attempts. He tied a school record
with five touchdown passes. Luczak also set MIAA records for
pass completions and pass attempts in a game. He also set
new Kalamazoo career marks in pass attempts and pass completions.
Jimmy Semelsberger had tied the school record with 15 catches
(142 yards, 2 touchdowns) and set a new single-season record
with 1,116 receiving yards. Mikael Lott had 14 catches for
154 yards and a score. Jimmy Frye had eight catches for 87
yards. Ryan Bizzis and Jon Vigi each had a touchdown reception.
Jake Schell led the defense with 11 tackles. Brandon Foutz
had eight tackles.
Kalamazoo finished the 2009 season with a record of 4-6 and
a sixth-place finish in the MIAA (1-5).
