OLIVET - The Kalamazoo College football team won 24-14 at Olivet on Saturday, Oct. 10, improving the Hornets' record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo last won four games in the 2005 season.

Kalamazoo scored on three of its first four possessions to take a 17-0 lead. Travis Braun kicked a 41-yard field goal on the first possession. Following an Olivet fumble, Kalamazoo scored just 25 seconds later when Brandon Luczak connected with Cory McCain for a 43-yard touchdown. Kalamazoo closed out the first quarter with another Luczak to McCain touchdown, this time from 12 yards out to take a 17-0 lead.

Olivet scored after blocking a punt midway through the second quarter to make it 17-6, the eventual halftime score.

Kalamazoo's Brandon Luczak hooked up with McCain for the third time in the game on the team's first possession of the second half, this time for a 12-yard score to make it 24-6 Kalamazoo.

The Comets scored midway through the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 24-14, but neither team would score over the final seven minutes of play.

Kalamazoo took advantage of six Olivet turnovers, including five fumbles and an interception. The Hornets put up 479 yards of total offense while limiting Olivet to 317 total yards. Kalamazoo turned the ball over three times.

Brandon Luczak was 29-of-57 passing for 393 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Cory McCain had nine catches for 139 yards with three touchdowns, setting a new Kalamazoo College single-season record with 14 touchdown receptions. Jimmy Semelsberger had eight catches for 95 yards. Dimeko Price had seven catches for 95 yards.

Price also had a nice day on the ground, rushing for 71 yards on 18 carries.

Nate Kopydlowski led the defense with 10 total tackles. Ken Jones and Brandon Foutz each had eight tackles. Mike Page and Ted Bealin were each credited with two sacks. Foutz, Brian Flahie and Adam Manix also had sacks. Trent Judis was credited with an interception.

Kalamazoo returns home next week for Homecoming and hosts Alma on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
