vs. Hope College
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team lost the
2008 season finale 42-16 at home to Hope. Hope led 21-7 at
halftime.
Hope jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after scoring a touchdown
on its opening drive. Hope made it 14-0 early in the second
quarter and then 21-0 with 4:34 left in the second quarter.
Kalamazoo made it 21-7 just before halftime with a three-yard
touchdown pass from Brandon Luczak to Josh Mrozowski.
Robbie Carollo scored a three-yard rushing touchdown on the
Hornets' opening possession of the second half to make it
21-14, however Hope would score twice in the third quarter
to make it 35-14. The Flying Dutchmen scored again at the
start of the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 42-14.
Kalamazoo scored two points when a bad Hope snap went into
the end zone for a safety late in the fourth.
Hope gained 555 yards to Kalamazoo's 353. The Hornets turned
the ball over twice while Hope had no turnovers.
Brandon Luczak was 25-of-43 passing for 263 yards with one
touchdown and one interception. He finished the season with
school records for completions (247) and attempts (454) in
a season. He finished with the second-highest yards of total
offense (3028) and third-best in passing yards (2836) and
passing touchdowns (20).
Jimmy Semelsberger had 11 catches for 92 yards. He broke
the school record for receptions in a season with 90. He ranks
third with 1053 receiving yards in a season.
Josh Mrozowski had six catches for 63 yards. Ryan Bizzis
had five catches for 76 yards.
Robbie Carollo had 42 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Luczak
rushed for 20 yards on seven carries.
Brandon Foutz led the defense with 15 total tackles and finished
the season with 101 tackles. Steve Charon had 11 tackles and
Nate Kopydlowski finished with 10.
