ADRIAN - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its MIAA
opener 42-17 at Adrian on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Kalamazoo trailed just 7-0 after the first quarter, but Adrian
increased its lead to 21-0 with 9:14 left in the second quarter.
The Hornets cut the lead to 21-7 when Brandon Luczak connected
with Cory McCain on an 18-yard touchdown pass with 4:40 left
in the second. Adrian followed with a 64-yard touchdown run
on the first play from scrimmage to extend the lead to 28-7.
Kalamazoo responded with an eight-play, 73-yard drive capped
by a 21-yard touchdown pass from Luczak to Brandon Baity to
make it 28-14 with 1:05 left before halftime. Adrian responded
again on its first play from scrimmage, this time an 85-yard
touchdown pass to take a 35-14 lead into halftime.
Adrian extended the lead to 42-14 with three seconds left
in the third quarter. Jon Rea's 27-yard field goal with 11:49
left in the fourth finished off the scoring for both teams
with Adrian on top 42-17.
Brandon Luczak was 27-of-45 passing for 288 yards with two
touchdowns and one interception. Jimmy Semelsberger had 12
catches for 135 yards. Ryan Bizzis had five catches for 78
yards. Cory McCain had five catches for 65 yards.
Michael Herman led the defense with 10 tackles. John Heitchue
had eight. Brian Flahie had six tackles, including three for
lost yardage with one sack. Omari Young had an interception.
Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday when the Hornets
host Olivet at 1 p.m.
