KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its MIAA opener 45-7 to Adrian on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Adrian (4-0, 1-0 MIAA) scored on its opening possession and took a 14-0 lead after Kalamazoo fumbled the kickoff return. Adrian scored its third touchdown of the first quarter with 1:43 left.

Kalamazoo (1-2, 0-1 MIAA) made it 21-7 when Jordan Tallman connected with Mike Benson on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 13:28 left in the second quarter, capping a nine-play, 63-yard drive. Adrian took a 31-7 lead into halftime after connecting on a 25-yard field goal and a touchdown run late in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs took a 38-7 lead after returning an interception 51 yards for a score at the beginning of the third quarter. Adrian finished its scoring with a touchdown with 1:46 left in the third quarter.

Kalamazoo turned the ball over four times and was held to 185 yards of total offense. Adrian turned the ball over three times but put together 419 yards of total offense.

Jordan Tallman was 20-of-41 passing for 152 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Mike Benson led the Kalamazoo receivers with 11 catches for 93 yards. Randy Rzeznik had four catches for 42 yards.

Stephen Johnston rushed for 40 yards on nine carries.

Steve Charon led the Kalamazoo defense with 15 total tackles and a fumble recovery. Ryan Carrigan had seven tackles.

Kalamazoo makes its first road trip of the season next week as the Hornets travel to Tri-State (2-2, 0-1 MIAA).
