ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its first road game of the season 17-14 at Tri-State. Kalamazoo trailed 7-0 at halftime.

Tri-State scored the only points of the first half on a 10-yard run with 16 seconds left in the first quarter.

Tri-State made it 10-0 with a 41-yard field goal with 49 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Hornets responded on their next possession when Jordan Tallman connected with Mike Benson on a 59-yard passing play with 14:46 left in the fourth quarter to cut the Tri-State lead to 10-7. Tri-State got some insurance with a six-yard touchdown pass with 3:25 left in the game, capping a 16-play, 86-yard drive that took 8:25 off the clock.

Kalamazoo cut the lead to three again (17-14) when Tallman connected with Benson again on a two-yard scoring play with 1:20 left in the game. The Hornets onside kick was unsuccessful and Tri-State was able to run out the clock.

Tri-State had 21 first downs in the game while holding Kalamazoo to 11 first downs. The Thunder had 382 yards of total offense to the Hornets' 273 yards. Tri-State held the ball for 37:27 while Kalamazoo had the ball for 22:33. Tri-State was able to control the clock with the lead for over 11 minutes in the fourth quarter. Tri-State was 11-of-20 on third downs while Kalamazoo was successful on 4-of-13 third down attempts.

Jordan Tallman was 19-of-31 passing for 229 yards with two touchdowns and two first half interceptions.

Jimmy Semelsberger led the receivers with six catches for 86 yards. Mike Benson had five catches for 81 yards and two scores. Stephen Johnston made four catches for 26 yards and Chris Coriasso had three catches for 30 yards.

Tallman rushed for 23 yards on eight carries and Johnston rushed for 21 yards on 12 carries.

Rob Duszynski led the Kalamazoo defense with 13 total tackles including a five-yard sack. Sean Schemmel had 11 tackles and Shane Nolan finished with 10 tackles. Nick Vanden Heuvel returned an interception 13 yards and Omari Young had his second interception of the season.

The Hornets return home next Saturday, Oct. 13 to host Hope College at 1 p.m. The game is part of Kalamazoo's homecoming weekend.
