vs. Olivet College (MIAA Contest)
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 43-24
to Olivet in the season finale at Angell Field. Olivet led
17-10 at halftime.
Kalamazoo pulled to within six points (23-17) with 8:44 left
in the third quarter, but Olivet scored three touchdowns on
big plays to take a 43-17 lead. Olivet scored on 38- and 33-yard
touchdown passes, as well as a 96-yard interception return.
Kalamazoo's Stephen Johnston scored on a 76-yard run with
three seconds left in the game to make the score 43-24.
Olivet had 381 yards of total offense to Kalamazoo's 373
yards. Kalamazoo had three turnovers while Olivet did not
turn the ball over.
Kalamazoo's Jordan Tallman was 22-of-45 passing for 254 yards
with one touchdown and two interceptions. He also scored on
a one-yard run in the third quarter. Tallman connected with
Mike Benson for a 71-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.
Mike Leifeld had five catches for 49 yards. Randy Rzeznik
had five catches for 25 yards. Brandon Foutz had three catches
for 56 yards.
Stephen Johnston had 94 yards rushing on 17 carries with
one touchdown.
Jim Backoff led the Hornet defense with seven total tackles.
Backoff, Michael Herman, Dave Kelly and Ryan Case were all
in on quarterback sacks.
Olivet's Robert White was 15-of-27 passing for 239 yards
with three touchdowns. Calvin McNamara was 1-for-1 for a 33-yard
touchdown.
Ryan Boone, Chris Smith, Carl Mulder and Rod Sanders each
had touchdown receptions for Olivet. Brandon Seays ran for
107 yards on 20 carries.
Kalamazoo finishes the season 2-7 (2-5 MIAA). Olivet finishes
6-4 (5-2 MIAA).
