ALBION - Two Kalamazoo College turnovers inside the Albion
10-yardline proved costly as the Hornets suffered a 21-13
loss at Albion on Saturday.
The Hornets held a 21-14 advantage in first downs and total
offense was nearly identical as Kalamazoo gained 316 yards
to Albion's 319 yards. The Hornets squandered two scoring
opportunities, however, losing a fumble at the Albion 10-yardline
in the second quarter and throwing an interception at the
Albion 10-yardline in the third quarter.
Kalamazoo trailed 21-0 at halftime and after three quarters.
The Hornets got on the board with 14:54 left in the fourth
quarter when Jordan Tallman connected with Mike Leifeld on
a nine-yard touchdown pass. Kalamazoo scored again on a three-yard
pass from Tallman to Stephen Johnston with 4:17 left in the
fourth, however the extra-point attempt was no good.
Kalamazoo got the ball back at the Hornets' 45-yardline with
1:59 left in the game, but the Hornets were intercepted on
the first play.
Jordan Tallman was 27-of-48 passing for 198 yards with two
touchdowns and three interceptions. Mike Leifeld had nine
catches for 72 yards. Randy Rzeznik had seven catches for
43 yards, and Jimmy Semelsberger finished with four catches
for 45 yards.
Tallman rushed for 66 yards on 14 carries. Johnston had 44
yards on 14 carries.
Albion quarterback Jake Wilson was 6-of-11 for only 79 yards,
but he rushed for 104 yards on 14 carries. Anthony Dunning
rushed for 116 yards on 20 carries to lead the Britons.
Chris Werme and Steve Charon each had eight tackles for the
Hornet defense. Omari Young had an interception, and Ross
Dalrymple and Michael Herman each had a sack.
Kalamazoo returns home next week to face Alma College at
1 p.m.
