vs. Wisconsin Lutheran College
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team celebrated
its homecoming with a 21-13 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Kalamazoo trailed 13-0 at halftime, but scored 21 unanswered
points in the second half, including the go-ahead (14-13)
touchdown pass from Tim Kaselitz to Jeff Green with 4:34 left
in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets were outgained in total offense (369-276), but
passed for 232 yards to the Warriors 116. Kalamazoo also took
advantage of two Wis. Lutheran turnovers while making two
outstanding plays on special teams, a blocked extra point
and a blocked field goal attempt. The Hornets did not turn
the ball over.
Tim Kaselitz was 24-of-40 passing for 232 yards with two
touchdowns. Jeff Green made spectacular grabs all afternoon
and finished with 101 yards on nine catches, including the
go-ahead score. Mike Leifeld had a career-high 107 yards on
10 catches and scored on a 31-yard passing play with just
2:42 left in the game.
Mike Benson had 19 yards rushing and Mike Strong had 18 yards
with a five-yard scoring run.
Robert Atwood and Nick Toboy each had 11 total tackles. Atwood
forced a fumble and had a pass break-up. Toboy had an interception
and blocked a 34-yard field goal attempt. Ryan Case forced
a fumble in Wis. Lutheran territory late in the game, and
Chris Smart blocked the extra-point attempt on the Warriors'
opening touchdown.
Matt Kehl led Wis. Lutheran with 161 yards rushing on 30
carries with two touchdowns (3, 2). Mo Newsome had 67 rushing
yards on 10 carries.
T.J. Bodnar was 13-of-24 passing for 116 yards with one interception.
Eric Treske was the Warriors' leading receiver with 28 yards
on two catches.
Mike Johnson led the Warriors' defense with eight solo tackles
and a pass break-up. Eric Walbrandt and Nate Olejniczak each
had two tackles for loss.
Kalamazoo (2-3, 1-1) travels to Albion College next Saturday
while Wis. Lutheran (1-4, 1-1) travels to Hope.
