November 8, 2003 - Kalamazoo College vs. Wisconsin Lutheran College
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College football team suffered its third consecutive defeat, falling 24-13 to Wisconsin Lutheran in the Hornets' final home game of the 2003 season.
Wisconsin Lutheran scored on their opening drive on a one-yard run by Dan Jacobsen. The Hornets countered with a touchdown of their own on a six-yard run by Matthew Jarboe to even up the score at 7-7 midway through the first quarter. Steve Adams' 40-yard field goal with 4:24 left in the second quarter gave the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors a 10-7 lead heading into halftime.
The Warriors made it 17-7 midway through the third quarter on a six-yard touchdown pass from Seth Fitzsimmons to Paul Nelson. The Hornets chipped away at the lead with two Gavin Mooney field goals (32, 28) and trailed 17-13 with 7:11 left in the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran sealed the game (24-13) when Dan Jacobsen took a run 58 yards up the middle for a touchdown on the Warriors first play of that possession.
Kalamazoo had a chance to get closer after driving to the Warriors eight yardline, but an incomplete pass on fourth-and-one and 1:02 left in the game ended the Hornets' chances at a come-from-behind win.
Kalamazoo turned the ball over three times while Wisconsin Lutheran had one turnover. The Hornets also suffered from a roughing the punter penalty in the first quarter, allowing Wisconsin Lutheran to continue their drive which led to their first touchdown.
Dwight White rushed for 73 yards on 14 carries to lead Kalamazoo. Matthew Jarboe had 68 yards on 5 carries and a touchdown.
Bryan Gnyp was 16-of-30 passing for 195 yards and one interception. He was sacked five times.
Andy Graham had seven receptions for 57 yards. Jeff Green had four catches for 76 yards. James Woodfork had two catches for 36 yards.
Mark LaCombe and Jeremy Vanisacker each had nine tackles for the Hornets. Nick Toboy and Will Solomon each had a sack. Conor Lefere had an interception.
Dan Jacobsen led the Warriors with 116 yards rushing on 18 carries and two touchdowns, including the 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Seth Fitzsimmons was 21-of-32 passing for 197 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He was sacked twice.
Paul Nelson had eight catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. Pete Hahm had four catches for 24 yards. Ryan Troge (40 yards) and Nate Hahm (14 yards) each had three receptions.
Phil Hahm led Wisconsin Lutheran with 10 tackles. Adrian Davis had an interception, and Nick Roeglin led the team with two sacks.
