
October 27, 2001 - Kalamazoo College at Alma College (MIAA Contest)
ALMA - Kalamazoo College fell to 1-2 in the MIAA with a 31-15 loss at Alma College on Saturday.
Junior wide receiver T.J. Thayer finished the day with eight receptions
for 127 yards, bringing his total to a school-record 113 career receptions.
The previous record of 111 was held by Wade Thomson (1994-97).
Kalamazoo's offense struggled from the beginning, but trailed only 3-0
after the first quarter. Alma would score two touchdowns in the second
quarter to carry a 17-0 lead into halftime.
The Hornets scored the first touchdown of the second half on a 30-yard completion from Bryan Gnyp to Andy Graham. Alma would respond with a touchdown of their own to make it 24-7 after three quarters.
The Scots scored early in the fourth to make it 31-7. Bryan Gnyp hooked up with Andy Graham for the second time on a 48-yard scoring play with 2:05 left in the game.
Gnyp finished the day 19-of-43 for 314 yards with two touchdowns and
one interception.
T.J. Thayer led all receivers with 127 yards on eight catches. Graham had
three catches for 92 yards. Dwight White had three catches for 46 yards.
Zach Burton had two catches for 33 yards.
The rushing game was held in check as Kalamazoo accumulated only 70
yards on the ground. Justin Gross had 38 yards on nine carries. Dwight
White finished with 30 yards on 11 carries.
Brant Haverdink and Brad Zielaskowski each had 16 tackles to lead Kalamazoo.
Haverdink had three tackles for lost yardage and a sack. Zielaskowski had
two tackles for loss. Nate Hurst added 13 tackles and Kyle Bainbridge had
11 tackles and a fumble recovery. Bainbridge, Brent Klein, Brett Foster,
and Will Solomon each had tackles for loss. Klein also had two sacks on
the day. Mark LaCombe and Conor Lefere each had an interception.
Kalamazoo will travel to Albion College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
