
October 13, 2001 - Kalamazoo College at Hope College (MIAA Contest)
HOLLAND - Kalamazoo College lost the MIAA opener 29-15 at Hope College
on a wet and rainy day at Holland Municipal Stadium today.
The Hornet offense was never able to get any momentum and gained only 185
yards on the day. Hope managed to move the ball on a combination of rushing
plays and out patterns and gained 391 total yards.
Hope opened the scoring with a 26-yard field goal with 4:34 left in the
first quarter. The Flying Dutchmen finished the quarter with a two-yard
scoring run. Hope struck again early in the second quarter on a 15-yard
touchdown run.
Dwight White scored on a 55-yard run with 2:32 left in the half to pull
Kalamazoo to within 10 points at 17-7 going into halftime.
Hope would score again early in the third on a 25-yard touchdown reception
from Phil Butler to Brian Adloff. The two would connect again in the fourth
quarter to give Hope a 29-7 lead.
Dwight White scored his second touchdown of the day on a four-yard run
with 5:27 left in the game. Bryan Gnyp connected with Andy Graham for the
two-point conversion, leading to the final score of 29-15.
Dwight White rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries. Justin Gross finished
with 15 yards on six carries.
Bryan Gnyp was 12-of-30 passing for 95 yards with an interception. He was
sacked seven times.
Andy Graham had six catches for 39 yards. T.J. Thayer was limited to only
four receptions for 26 yards. Zach Burton had two catches for 30 yards.
Conor Lefere led Kalamazoo with 11 tackles and an interception. Mark LaCombe
set a career-high with two interceptions. Brad Zielaskowski and Brant Haverdink
each had 10 tackles. Tim Prater, Nate Hurst, and Haverdink each had tackles
for lost yardage.
Kalamazoo did win the turnover battle, taking four and losing two. The
Hornets also led in time of possession, 32 minutes to 28 minutes. A key
stat was Kalamazoo's third down conversion rate -- 3-of-16.
Kalamazoo (4-1 / 0-1 MIAA) plays its homecoming game next Saturday against
Olivet College at 1 p.m.
