October 14, 2000 - Hope College at Kalamazoo College
KALAMAZOO - Seven Kalamazoo College turnovers led to a 42-25 defeat by Hope College today.
Kalamazoo lost three fumbles and threw four interceptions, including one which was returned 25 yards for a touchdown.
Kalamazoo scored on its opening drive with a 45-yard field goal by Tom Hillemeier. Hope dominated the rest of the half, scoring 28 unanswered points to take a 28-3 lead into halftime.
Kalamazoo's Dwight White scored the first two touchdowns of the second half to cut the Hope lead to 10 (28-18). Hope responded with two more touchdowns while Dwight White scored his third touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter.
White led Kalamazoo with 66 yards on 15 carries. Justin Gross had 30 yards on eight carries. Zach Ellis and Bryan Gnyp split time at quarterback and each was picked off twice. Ellis completed 7-of-19 attempts for 164 yards.
Andy Graham had four receptions for 98 yards. Jason Charnley had three catches for 53 yards while Todd Wilson had two grabs for 28 yards.
Brant Haverdink had an outstanding day on defense as he recorded 18 total tackles including 11 solos. He also had one quarterback sack and four tackles for lost yardage. Brent Klein had ten tackles. Neil Laws had seven tackles with one sack and Nate Hurst had six tackles.
Hope's Mike Gle had touchdown receptions of 21 and 34 yards to lead the Flying Dutchmen. J.D. Graves was 12-of-24 for 163 yards with three touchdown passes and one interception. Adam Magers led the rushing attack with 99 yards on 21 carries. John Sloothaak had 64 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown.
