Ellis, Hillemeier Earn MIAA Football Honors

Zach EllisKalamazoo College football players Zach Ellis and Tom Hillemeier earned MIAA honors for their performances in the Hornets' 27-23 loss to Albion College this past Saturday.

Ellis, a sophomore quarterback from Okemos (Okemos HS), was named MIAA co-Offensive Player of the Week after completing 22-of-40 passes for 252 yards. He also rushed for 79 yards on eight carries. He achieved career highs in each category (completions, attempts, passing yards, rushing yards, rushing attempts). Ellis shared the honors with Hope running back Adam Magers.

Tom HillemeierHillemeier, a junior kicker from Ann Arbor (Pioneer HS), was named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week. He was 3-for-3 on field goals with distances of 34, 34, and 29 yards. He was 2-for-2 on extra point attempts. He averaged 42.0 yards on four punts with a long punt of 61 yards. Two of the four punts were inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

Kalamazoo is 4-4 on the season (2-2 MIAA) and plays its season finale at Adrian College this Saturday at 1 p.m.
