Through Kalamazoo College's K-Plan, students are provided several
opportunities for experiential learning. Biology and economics major, Markus
Boos took maximum advantage of the K-Plan by completing three internships.
Boos interned for Kalamazoo College professor Dr. Carolyn Newton at Mount
Desert in Maine, examining the protein in the blood of dogfish shark. After
his sophomore year Markus worked with Dr. Paul Sutherland, another Kalamazoo
professor, maintaining the Lillian Anderson Arboretum in Kalamazoo and
designing its website. Last summer Markus worked in the department of immunology
at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and based his senior individualized
project on this research experience.
"My internships placed me in completely new environments, away from Kalamazoo
College and Michigan," Boos said. "I learned skills which will always be
valuable to me, and similarly, they gave me a taste of life in the 'real'
world."
After graduation, Markus said he has a position arranged with Anderson
Consulting as an entry-level analyst.
