
May 11, 2001 - Kalamazoo College at Albion College (MIAA 9-inning Game)
ALBION - The Kalamazoo College baseball
team closed out its season with a bang, defeating Albion College 21-7.
The Hornets pounded out 24 hits in the game and won handily despite committing
seven errors.
Garry Penta started for Kalamazoo and pitched three and a third innings
before being replaced by Rick Sharp. Sharp pitched two and two third innings
and is credited with the win. Dan Flewelling pitched the seventh inning.
The game was called after seven innings.
Brent LeVasseur led the Hornet offense. He was 5-for-5 with two doubles,
four RBIs and two runs scored. Ross Gladding was 4-for-5 with a double
and two RBIs. Garry Penta was 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs, and
three runs scored. Todd Wilson, Nathan Brouwer, Jim Hurd, Joe Wicklander
and T.J. Thayer each had two hits. Wilson and Brouwer had doubles. Hurd
also had a home run.
Kalamazoo finishes the season with a record of 12-22 (8-10 MIAA). The Hornets
are currently in fourth place in the MIAA, however it is possible for Olivet
to move ahead in the standings with a three-game sweep of Alma this weekend.
