March 30-31, 2001 - Adrian College at Kalamazoo College

KALAMAZOO - The MIAA opener proved to be quite eventful as Adrian defeated Kalamazoo 8-6 in a game that took two days to complete. The game was suspended because of darkness after 10 innings on Friday with the score tied, 6-6. The game was resumed on Saturday and Adrian scored two runs in the top of the 11th to take the 8-6 lead. Kalamazoo managed to get a base hit with two outs, but Adrian closed the door with a ground out to end the game.

Conor Lefere was 4-for-6 with two RBI. Nathan Brouwer and Todd Wilson were each 3-for-6. Ben Tucker suffered the loss

Game two of the weekend tripleheader followed immediately after the extra-inning affair. Kalamazoo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back, winning the game, 8-1. Ben Tucker went the distance allowing just one run on five hits. Conor Lefere was 4-for-4 with a home run and two doubles. Brent LeVasseur was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Nathan Brouwer and Pat Ellis were each 2-for-4. Ellis also had two RBI.

The Hornets fell behind quickly in the third game and trailed 8-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. A valiant effort by the Hornets aided by two Adrian errors brought Kalamazoo to within one run (8-7) with two outs. Adrian's closer entered the game and forced a ground ball to end the game. Conor Lefere was 2-for-5 with a triple. TJ Thayer was 2-for-4. Aaron Thornburg was 1-for-2 with two RBI in his return to the lineup. Garry Penta went the distance and suffered the loss on the mound.
